Alive!

5 December 2025

Okay, so it was a little more than a 2 week break, but shit went wrong okay. Hopefully there’ll be little more regularity in my life now that I’+m home (for a bit).

Guestbook signed???

Okay, so my implementation of a guestbook utterly failed and I quickly switch to my backup solution. I think I tracked the problem down the browser security issue in the meta tags, but the fix is on the back burner for now.

I should mention AHH, PEOPLE ARE VISITING!!!

Thank you both for the comments. This’ll hopefully keep me motivated. I did a little snooping around gax’s site and we’re both in the legal field (them probably more more than I). I’ll be watching your career with great anticipation. Any strangers reading this, take a look at their site (ADD LINK) and throw them some support.

My computer was on fire but Eastshade’s poor performance saved it

I bought a super interesting game called Eastshade. It’s like an open world fantasy world and you’re a painter. It’s a really pretty game and I was really excited to play it.

Unfortunately, the game didn’t really run well on my system. The game ran well for a few minutes then its performance absolutely tank, like there was a memory leak or something. I started looking into where a potential bottleneck could be. Both CPU and GPU were running well below 15% of usage. Then I noticed the CPU temperature was running at a nice cool 95 DEGREES CELSIUS!! (MAKE TEXT BIGGER?). Keep in mind the max recommended temperature is 90 degrees. I removed my water cooling system (AIO) and threw in an air cooler. Instantly dropped temperatures down to 35 in game.

Anyway, here are some of the nicer portraits I made (and by made I mean let the game apply a filter and export those).

Calibration is a pain

So, I’m home and have now calibrated my 3d printer. I built a lot of designs which I need to print and refine.

My first step, was cleaning out the nozzle. I disassembled the toolhead (realising afterwords realising I didn’t have the take the whole thing apart). I used a heat gun to soften burnt plastic and clean it off.

I then walked through Ellis’ printing guide (great guide, but sometimes a little ambiguous) . I finished the following calibrations:

  • extruder calibration
  • probe offset
  • z-offset
  • first layer squish
  • found and fixed bed mesh not being used
  • pressure advance
  • bed calibration (using screw_tilt_adjust in klipper)
  • dried filament

For the last calibration the bed’s before and after are below. We reduced the height variation from around 0.6mm to 0.2mm.

Benchies

There are still some stringing problems (exacurbated example below), but I’ll get to those when replacement parts come in.

Seafiles is broken again

I’ve been homelabbing for a while, and I don’t know why but all of my file syncing solutions fail. I tried nextcloud (LINK) but that was too heavy for my celetron server. I’ve been playing with seafiles because it seemed light and I only really wanted things to sync when it could talk to the home server. It’s been running fine all for a while (maybe 3 months), but when I got home it was completely broken. After some investigation, I realised the recommended docker-compose file for seafiles auto updates not only the minor versions, but the major as well. Even though the docker-compose file specifies a particular major version. So, I rolled it back and it worked (for a few days) and broken again. I still haven’t had a chance to fix this one up. Super annoying though, glad I managed to sync my laptop and desktop so I won’t need to do it manually.

Next big task

Writing a DND adventure. So, I’m planning an end of the year heist adventure. I started writing a train robber-ish heist, but it doesn’t really fit the suave well planned heist. I can probably modify what I have so far, but there is a lot of work to do.

I should probably also revisit doing some law related post because it looks like me and gax have that in common.

Start printing those designs I made while away.

fix my seafiles container (might be easier to blow it away and restart).

So, where did you meet your last internet friend?
