It has not been a productive week, so this’ll just be some ramblings.
I’ve been thinking about how to implement an Oceans type heist scenario in Dungeons and Dragons (DND). It’s turning into quite a lot of work.
The unnamed city is controlled by nobles whose power is in a constant state of flux. One noble (unnamed) in an attempt to convert their facade of power into something concrete, has built a vault. A vault to convince other s to trust them with the safekeeping of valuables. They will then leverage the vault’s content for their own ventures. However, the vault itself is incomplete during the function.
The players having gathered for the heist which will unfold in 3 phases. The planning phase where they formulate a plan and gather information. The execution phase putting their plan into motion and reacting to any twists. Finally, the escape and conclusion based on certain decisions and if any of their identities were compromised.
If you’re planning to run a heist in a fantasy setting, you might want to checkout blades in the dark (link). It has a really cool rule where during the heist, players can use a flashback point to jump back and overcome a twist.
I’ve also prepared a list of potential issues the DM can use which tackle different skills. This is to stop dex based characters from being the only ones useful.
So this adventure has gone way out of proportion. I’ll have to make several nobles families, sources of income, a moral choice the party needs to make. Several pieces of information they’ll need to gather (and smaller scenarios to gather that information).
Okay, as expected with anything I do my deployment system failed. I didn’t realise the hugo serve command builds a different version of the site. Easy fix, all I need to do is use the correct command on the final site. I’ll automate this at some stage.
Last item to note, I’m off on a fishing trip. I might not be able to post next week depending on when I get back. The family is going on a fishing trip up north to a place called shark’s bay. it’s a 9 hour drive from our city, but it’ll be fun. I’ll bring back pictures and keep working on my adventure offline.
